Practical skills development:

The Woman In Black offical trailer:

We chose this trailer as inspiration for when making ours as we wanted to go down the route of making a 'horror film' trailer. This trailer uses a wide range of shots, something we hoped to do in our trailer.

Our trailer:

From making this trailer I have learnt to use various software, such as garage-band to create a sound track and final cut express, this will really benefit me when creating my final product as I have now gained skill in using these and I will further this skill as the course proceeds. I am also now aware of the features a trailer should include and how and why they are made.

Making a trailer:

One of the many USP to Battleship may be the fact there is a well established female artist acting in it, in fact as one of the main characters. She is a idol to females and a sex icon to males, so she will make this film more appealing.
The chosen audience is late teens to early twenties, predominantly male. Probably due to the action genre of the film. As shown below:

The trailer:

This will appeal to the target audience of males as it includes a lot of action shots, dramatic scenes and sounds which have proven to be of interest to males. It also shows the famous actors/actresses names which will appeal to the target audience age range from late teens to early twenties as 'names' and 'faces' are of importance to them at this age.

I created my own trailer for the film Battleships (http://www.filmeducation.org/teachingtrailers/secondary/make_a_trailer/view/971F0) in which I included a lot of the naval and action based shots as I noted the majority of the audience was male and I believed these types of shots would create interest to the film for them. I included a few shots of the 'monster' to both build tension and create a 'want to see more' type of effect, this was intended to make more people want to view the film. I decided to cut out the more romantic/love scenes which are shown in the original trailer as I think these are of no relevance and the shorter trailer with packed in action will be of more effect.

Marketing Battleship:

Starting my research and developing my practical skills:

In order to begin my advanced portfolio in media I will research the marketing campaign for the recently released film Battleship. I will look at all of the marketing methods used and how the trailer, posters and magazine covers maintained a unique selling point (USP), signified the genre and had similar stylistic traits. Then using the Film Education Website I will have a go at devising my own trailer for the film employing my recently acquired knowledge about film marketing.

Brief:

I need to create a promotion package for a new film; making a teaser trailer, a magazine cover featuring the film and a poster for the film.

Both group and individual work will be required when it comes to the production element, the presentation of research, planning and evaluation. It is stated that although the evidence may be presented collectively for group work the candidates will be assessed individually for their contributions to the work concerning planning, research and production of the product.
